Our foundation team brings together professionals with many years of experience at both high-school and university level across backgrounds of clinical & educational psychology, training, teaching and learning, research, and education management.

Dr Catherine BOland

Dr Catherine Boland is a clinical psychologist who specialises in child development, parenting and family relationships. She has spent her career working with young people and parents to improve their lives in her work as a clinician, court expert, author, and speaker. Her background in education, child development and family relationships has given her the clinical and practical expertise to design an evidence-based approach used in SWOT intervention. Catherine’s focus is on the evidence-based psychological and behavioural research that drives habit-based learning and ensures that the mental health of young people [and their parents] is prioritised.

Catherine James

Graduating with a B.Sc (Hons) in Earth and Marine Science, Catherine James commenced her career in secondary education as a Science teacher. Moving into a management position Catherine spent the next 15 years within the foreign government sector in Australia where she honed skills in administrative law, governance and stewardship of public assets. Establishing a specialist mental health practice in 2012, Catherine built a cache of skills in organisation risk management practices and directorship, while monitoring strategy, budget and HR processes to build a safeguard long-term success of The Relationspace. Developing further skills in digital start-up, grants and stakeholder engagement culminating in the launch of RelationSpace Online, an interactive e-psych program. SWOT interventions brings together her strong interest in education, leadership, facilitation and entrepreneurship and her pursuit of access to good outcomes for school-leavers in their transition to adulthood.

Myra Wearne

Myra Wearne is a retired school principal who collaborates with and empowers children, young people, and educators to solve real-world problems in their communities. Myra believes that individuals of any age succeed when supported and empowered by compassionate and focused leaders, mentors and coaches. She has presented at the World Conferences for Gifted & Talented Education and co-authored an article for Springers Handbook of Giftedness and Talent Development in the Asia-Pacific, drawing on her experiences with empowering students using problem-based learning. She has significant experience supporting children who they have experienced trauma in their lives and provides high-level support to beginning teachers and school executives across schools in Northern Sydney to ensure that they meet their potential.

Myra was awarded a Bachelor in Primary Education, and a Bachelor in Financial Administration from Macquarie University and the University of New England and has a Graduate Certificate in Developmental Trauma.

Scott Carpenter

Scott Carpenter is an experienced and qualified teacher with 25 years experience in the tertiary education sector teaching students from a very broad range of backgrounds with very diverse personal and educational needs. In the UK, Scott aligned with private education providers to promote educational products, develop brand and markets and expertise in the delivery of educational provision, the management of teaching staff and resource development. Scott has a background in communications, promotion and skills in Public Relations and brings relationship building skills to nurture stakeholder partnerships for SWOT Interventions. Currently engaged with UTS College as a Subject Coordinator in the Foundation Program, his role prepares students for undergraduate study in a range of discipline areas. With extensive experience in working with at-risk and challenging young people Scott prides himself on achieving outstanding outcomes.
